About the role
Huntington National Bank is hiring a Mainframe Systems Engineer III to help keep its core z/OS infrastructure running securely and reliably. This is a hands-on infrastructure engineering role (not application coding) covering z/OS installation, storage, hardware configuration, networking, and capacity planning for a large financial-services mainframe environment, based out of Columbus, Ohio with hybrid flexibility.
Responsibilities
- Install, customize, and maintain z/OS and related ISV software in a Parallel Sysplex environment
- Manage mainframe storage configuration and capacity, including DASD and related hardware
- Configure and troubleshoot mainframe networking and z/OS-to-z/VM connectivity issues
- Apply and debug SMP/E maintenance, including advanced problem diagnosis and performance tuning
- Monitor system performance and support capacity planning to keep workloads running efficiently
- Write and maintain detailed operational and configuration documentation
- Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation to support production mainframe systems
- Mentor other infrastructure engineers and share mainframe expertise across the team
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education and mainframe engineering experience
- 5-10 years of hands-on z/OS engineering experience
- Practical depth in at least one core area: z/OS install/customization, storage management, hardware configuration, networking, or performance/capacity planning
- Preferred: experience with BMC Mainview installation and z/OSMF deployment
- Preferred: TCP/IP configuration and storage management in a mainframe environment
- Strong documentation habits and ability to translate technical detail into clear procedures
