About the role
McMaster-Carr — the industrial-supply company that manufacturers have relied on for over 120 years — runs its e-commerce and distribution operations on the mainframe, and is hiring a Senior z/OS Platform Engineer to keep that platform fast, resilient, and efficient. This is a hands-on infrastructure role for someone who wants to work at a marquee end-user shop rather than a consultancy, on-site in the Chicago area.
Responsibilities
- Support CICS and Db2 subsystems and apply ongoing system maintenance
- Write code to improve the availability, resiliency, and efficiency of mainframe software and systems
- Handle a broad range of mainframe infrastructure tasks, including physical hardware replacement
- Analyze application, resource, and system data to optimize cost
- Grow the team's technical depth through learning groups and mentoring
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience with z/OS, CICS, Db2, JCL, SMP/E, SMS/ACS, networking, z/OSMF, and Zowe
- Strong analytical problem-solving and technical design skills
- Clear communication with both technical and non-technical audiences
- Interest in mentoring and building leadership skills
