About the role
Focus Interpreting is looking for an independent-contractor ASL interpreter to cover assignments across the Fresno, CA area — corporate meetings, classrooms, medical appointments, and public events. Work is assignment-based rather than a fixed shift, so you set your own availability within the jobs offered.
Responsibilities
- Provide accurate, fluent ASL-to-English and English-to-ASL interpretation across corporate, educational, medical, and public-facing assignments
- Adjust interpreting style and terminology to fit each client's setting and communication needs
- Maintain strict confidentiality and professional conduct on every assignment
- Keep interpreting skills current through ongoing training
- Take part in occasional team check-ins with the Focus Interpreting staff
Requirements
- Fluent in American Sign Language with strong English proficiency
- ASL interpreting certification or equivalent formal training preferred
- Working knowledge of Deaf culture and community communication norms
- Experience interpreting across varied settings (business, school, healthcare, community) is a plus
- Able to stay composed and accurate in high-pressure situations
