About the role
Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) is hiring a credentialed Emergency Veterinary Technician for its 24/7 emergency animal hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts. You'll be part of the clinical team handling everything from triage to discharge for pets in crisis, working hands-on with medications, anesthesia, diagnostics, and advanced emergency procedures alongside VEG's veterinarians. It's a fast-paced, high-acuity role built for a technician who already holds Massachusetts credentialing and wants to specialize in emergency medicine, with pay reaching up to $68/hour and a benefits package that includes day-one health coverage, student loan assistance, and equity after a year.
Responsibilities
- Guide patients and their families through every stage of an emergency visit, from initial triage to discharge, providing both clinical nursing care and compassionate support
- Administer prescribed medications and IV fluid therapy, and step in with critical care interventions as cases demand
- Respond to codes with CPR and other emergency stabilization procedures
- Run diagnostic testing, imaging, and sample collection, and place tubes and lines as needed
- Oversee anesthesia protocols across the full range of patient acuity, from routine to critical
- Assist with advanced procedures such as central line placement, endoscopy, and ultrasound
- Work in close, real-time coordination with veterinarians and the wider care team
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program is preferred
- Active credentialing in Massachusetts as a CVT, RVT, LVT, or LVMT
- At least one year of hands-on veterinary technician experience, ideally in emergency or specialty medicine
- Comfortable working with practice management software and electronic medical records
- Able to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 kg unassisted, and help move patients up to 40 kg with assistance
- Open to a rotating schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays
