About the role

Schwarzman Animal Medical Center's Emergency & Critical Care unit is looking for a Licensed Veterinary Technician to join its 24/7 ICU team in Manhattan. You'll work alongside emergency veterinarians and specialists to stabilize and treat critically ill patients, from triage through recovery, while helping train the hospital's interns and residents. This is a fast-paced, hands-on role at one of New York City's premier nonprofit animal hospitals, with several shift patterns available to fit different schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the ECC veterinary team on every stage of critical patient care, starting with triage
  • Step in to provide anesthesia support whenever cases require it
  • Carry out technical procedures and treatments accurately and on schedule, following hospital and department protocols
  • Respond to cardiopulmonary arrests and help stabilize patients in crisis
  • Mentor interns and residents on ICU procedures and protocols, and pitch in on other ICU duties as needed
  • Work independently as a self-starter while functioning as part of a close-knit clinical team

Requirements

  • Active New York State Veterinary Technician license required
  • At least 2 years of hands-on LVT experience in a critical care setting
  • Able to lift and safely restrain animals up to 50 pounds
  • Comfortable working rotating shifts in a unit that runs 24/7
  • Calm, clear-headed communicator who stays composed during emergencies
  • Strong collaboration skills with clients, technicians, and veterinarians
