About the role
Ensono, a managed-services provider that runs mainframe environments for large enterprises, is hiring a senior mainframe engineer to support, maintain, and enhance a suite of production COBOL applications. This is a fully remote US role for someone with 8+ years of hands-on mainframe experience who also enjoys mentoring less-senior developers.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain COBOL applications running in a production mainframe environment
- Troubleshoot complex issues and resolve integration problems across connected systems
- Perform performance tuning and optimization on existing applications
- Write technical documentation and knowledge-base articles for the team
- Manage incidents, service requests, and change requests across both waterfall and agile workflows
- Mentor and support junior members of the mainframe team
Requirements
- 8+ years of mainframe application development and support experience
- Proficiency in COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, and VSAM
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field
- Strong grasp of the full software development lifecycle
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
