About the role
Convene is growing its in-house AV production team to run sound for high-end live events — galas, luxury weddings, award ceremonies, runway shows, and large corporate gatherings across its New York venues. This part-time A1 Audio Engineer role is built for an experienced live-sound mixer who wants steady, well-paid shift work without being tied to a single venue.
Responsibilities
- Set up, test, and operate live audio gear — microphones, speakers, mixing consoles, playback systems — for each event
- Mix live sound in real time, adjusting levels and EQ to match the room and the moment
- Troubleshoot audio issues on the fly to keep events running without interruption
- Coordinate with event producers and the wider production team on each event's audio needs
- Inspect, maintain, and perform routine repairs on audio equipment between events
- Document equipment setups, signal configurations, and inventory
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience as an A1 audio engineer or similar in hospitality/live events
- Hands-on skill with mixing consoles, wireless microphones, speakers, Dante audio networking, and playback devices
- A trained ear for sound quality and strong troubleshooting instincts
- Comfortable working evenings, weekends, and holidays as events require
- Degree or certification in audio engineering or sound design preferred, not required
What we offer
- $55/hour with a 10-hour minimum guarantee per shift
- Overtime pay for hours beyond 40 in a week
- PTO accrual plus a paid day off during your birthday month
- Discounts on travel, entertainment, and everyday essentials
- Retirement savings plan available even on a part-time schedule
