About the role
Astyra, a Raleigh-based IT staffing firm, is recruiting an experienced Mainframe Specialist for a client engagement on-site in Raleigh, NC. The role calls for a seasoned z/OS hand who can keep CICS regions healthy, manage software releases through Endevor, and tune DB2 SQL for a production mainframe environment — this is a W2 contract only, with no Corp-to-Corp arrangements considered.
Responsibilities
- Own configuration management and release/promotion workflows using Endevor
- Provide day-to-day CICS administration, including troubleshooting and debugging production issues
- Review and tune complex SQL queries against DB2, recommending changes for performance and cost efficiency
- Partner directly with application development teams and other technical staff on mainframe support needs
- Support broader z/OS operating system administration tasks as they come up
Requirements
- 7+ years of hands-on experience with the z/OS operating system
- 7+ years supporting CICS regions, including problem diagnosis and debugging
- 7+ years working with Endevor for configuration and release management
- 7+ years writing and evaluating SQL, plus working knowledge of DB2 tools and utilities
- Familiarity with IMS and JCL; exposure to middleware or MQ is a plus
- Must work W2 — Corp-to-Corp candidates will not be considered
