About the role
Handshake AI runs a paid fellowship that pairs subject-matter experts with frontier AI labs to help train and evaluate large language models. The AI Evaluation Specialist opening, listed on Handshake's own fellowship page, pays up to $17 an hour and is open to US-based applicants with supported work authorization. Fellows apply directly through Handshake's site, verify their identity, and get matched to a live AI-training project. This is short-term, project-based 1099 independent-contractor work — not traditional employment — with no minimum hours required.
Responsibilities
- Apply and verify your identity through Handshake AI's own platform
- Get matched to an active AI-training project based on your background
- Complete short project-specific onboarding before starting paid work
- Apply your subject-matter knowledge to help train and evaluate current AI models
- Work asynchronously and part-time, on your own schedule
Requirements
- Based in the United States with work authorization Handshake AI can support
- F-1 students eligible for CPT or standard OPT may qualify; STEM OPT is not supported
- Comfortable working independently in a remote, asynchronous setup
- Strong reasoning and attention to detail; no prior AI experience required
