About the role
Mercor is hiring a remote contract Analytical Chemist to join a panel of chemistry and chemical-safety experts red-teaming frontier AI models. You'll write test prompts at varying risk levels, grade AI model responses against a safety policy, and document your reasoning — all from home, on a flexible task-based schedule.
Responsibilities
- Write single-turn test prompts covering benign, dual-use, and adversarial chemistry scenarios
- Grade AI model responses to those prompts against Mercor's safety policy standards
- Draft reference answers with clear, well-documented technical reasoning
- Flag model outputs that raise chemical-safety concerns for further review
Requirements
- Hands-on experience developing or validating analytical methods for hazardous compounds (e.g., GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, IR, or NMR)
- Background in trace-level, environmental, occupational, or emergency-response analytical chemistry
- Experience with reference standards, spectral libraries, or QA/QC and proficiency testing
- Strong technical writing skills; published work or expert-witness experience is a plus
- Red-teaming or AI-evaluation experience is preferred but not required
- Must not use classified, export-controlled, or NDA-covered information in any submitted work
What we offer

- Pay per completed task ($65–$75/task)
