About the role
Texas Health Action (THA) is a community-informed nonprofit that provides culturally affirming healthcare through its Kind Clinic locations across Texas, with particular expertise serving LGBTQIA+ patients and people impacted by HIV. THA is hiring a part-time Medical Assistant to support day-to-day patient care at its San Antonio Kind Clinic, reporting to the Clinic Administrator.
Responsibilities
- Room and prepare patients for their clinic visits
- Take and document patient medical, family, social, and surgical history along with allergies
- Record vital signs and assist with phlebotomy and lab specimen processing during clinic hours
- Dispense medication and administer STI treatments, including injections, under clinician direction
- Act as a liaison between the lab, clinicians, and patients, verifying specimen labeling and following handling protocols
- Keep exam rooms clean and stocked, and help track supply inventory
- Follow infection-control practices and universal precautions to keep the clinic safe
- Complete required annual clinical competencies and training
- Maintain patient confidentiality in line with HIPAA and clinic policy
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent formal military medical training
- Current Phlebotomy Certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, required at hire or obtained before start date
- Bilingual English/Spanish ability preferred
- Experience with HIV or STI testing and treatment clinics preferred
- 2+ years working with diverse or marginalized populations preferred
