About the role
Sofar Sounds, which puts on intimate live shows in unconventional spaces — rooftops, living rooms, boutiques — across roughly 400 cities worldwide, is hiring a contract Audio Engineer to run live sound for its New York shows. You'll bring your own PA and mixer to each gig, working alongside local crews and artists to make sure every set sounds right in spaces that were never built to be venues.
Responsibilities
- Provide live sound reinforcement for Sofar shows around NYC
- Work with local crew and artists to prep gear and run each show smoothly
- Confirm each artist's gear needs through Sofar's concert portal ahead of time
- Transport, set up, and break down your own audio equipment at each venue
- Keep sound levels safe and appropriate for the room and audience
- Advise on audio setup for unconventional venues and special partnership shows
Requirements
- Hands-on experience running DIY audio setups, ideally for shows of 50+ people
- Your own PA, mixer, and gear, plus reliable transportation to shows
- Comfortable improvising in nontraditional, unconventional venues
- Strong communication skills working alongside artists and crews
- Able to troubleshoot audio issues calmly under pressure
- Able to lift up to 75 lbs., with or without accommodation
